Turned tables for OH-15

Two days ago I blogged that Jim Petro was going to run for the Ohio 15th seat that Deborah Pryce will be leaving, but it appears that this is unlikely. Petro’s got a lot of baggage, and he’s talking about the Ohio Supreme Court himself:

Northeast Ohio native and former state Attorney General Jim Petro says the only way he would run for Congress next year is if he first puts aside his aspirations to become Ohio’s next Supreme Court chief justice.

“Certainly, if I don’t run for Congress, one of the reasons I would’ve made that decision is because I’m thinking of other opportunities, and the Supreme Court in 2010 would be one of them,” Petro said.

Several names are being floated around and there’s no one obvious consensus candidate for the Republicans. It’s still fairly early, and it’s August, but the sooner one name emerges, the better it will be for the Repubs.

In the things change fast department, a few months ago we were facing an incumbent Republican running against a Democratic challenger after a possibly rough Democratic primary. Now there’s a single Democratic candidate in Mary Jo Kilroy, and who knows, we could see a Republican primary fight for the nomination- if the party can’t coalesce around a single candidate before then.
